WE TREAT
Forefoot Pain Assessment and Treatment in Leeds
From metatarsalgia to neuromas, we provide expert care tailored to your needs.

Forefoot pain refers to discomfort in the front portion of the foot, typically affecting the toes, the metatarsals or the balls of your feet. Because we rely on this area for every step we take, persistent pain can significantly impact your mobility and quality of life.
Common Causes of Forefoot Pain
Forefoot discomfort rarely stems from a single issue. Instead, structural changes, mechanical stress, or inflammatory conditions often cause these symptoms.
Key causes include:
- Loss of Fibro-fatty Padding: The natural cushioning under the ball of the foot wears down (atrophy), reducing shock absorption.
- Inflammatory Conditions: Common issues include Capsulitis (joint lining inflammation), Bursitis, and Neuromas.
- Nerve and Bone Stress: Conditions such as Morton’s Neuroma, Osteochondritis, or Freiberg’s Infarction.
- Mechanical Issues: Poorly fitted footwear or transfer overloading, where weight is unevenly distributed across the foot.
- Biomechanical Imbalances: Specific stressors leading to Periostitis or Sesamoiditis.
- Acute Injury: Plantar plate tears, sesamoid fractures, or stress fractures of the metatarsals.

Our Specialist Assessment Process
At Foot Pain Centres of Leeds, we don’t just treat symptoms; we identify the root cause. Our comprehensive assessment includes:
- Structural Examination: Analysing foot shape and joint mobility.
- Pressure Distribution: Evaluating how your weight is distributed across the forefoot.
- Gait Analysis: Observing your walking pattern to see how forces impact your foot during movement.
Diagnostic Tools and Targeted Treatments
After we confirm your diagnosis, we create a bespoke management plan. Depending on your specific needs, your treatment may involve:
- Advanced Imaging: Utilising X-rays, Diagnostic Ultrasound, MRI, or CT scans to visualise internal damage.
- Non-Surgical Relief: Manual therapy, mechanical adjustments, and custom orthotics to realign and cushion the foot.
- Medical Interventions: Steroid injections for inflammation or, in chronic cases where conservative management has been exhausted, a surgical referral.
Our primary goal is to alleviate your pain, restore natural biomechanics, and get you back to your daily activities without discomfort.
